Follow these 7 steps carefully
For this awesome version, squeeze fresh lemon juice into a small bowl and add a few drops of water.
Dip a cotton swab or thin paintbrush into the lemon juice mixture.
Write a secret message or draw a picture on the white paper.
Let the paper dry completely โ the message will become invisible!
To reveal the message, hold the paper near a lamp or have an adult iron it on low heat.
Watch as the invisible message appears in brown letters!
Try writing messages to friends and see if they can reveal them.

The Science Behind It ๐ฌ
Lemon juice contains citric acid, which is a carbon-based compound. When you write with it and let it dry, the message is invisible because the acid is colorless. When you apply heat, the citric acid molecules break down and the carbon in them oxidizes โ reacts with oxygen in the air. This oxidation turns the carbon brown, just like how a cut apple turns brown when exposed to air. The parts of the paper with lemon juice brown faster than the rest because they have extra carbon from the citric acid! This variation explores the concept further by introducing new variables and measurements.
